About
I am Associate Professor of Chinese Religions in the Department of Religious Studies at Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada.
My main area of teaching and research is in Chinese religions, especially Daoism, also known as Taoism, the organized, indigenous religion of China. I focus more generally on the way religions construct images of nature and influence values and behaviours towards nature and the environment in modern cultures. I have published four books on these topics, and my current research investigates religion, nature and modernity in the People's Republic of China.
I manage a large-scale academic website for research on on Daoism (www.daoiststudies.org), and I also write a blog called sustainable china (www.sustainablechina.info) that discusses my current research activities.
