About

I am a professor of philosophy at Queen’s where I currently hold the Ontario Research Chair in Bioethics. I edit two international bioethics journals, have published over a hundred articles in peer-reviewed journals and books, and have worked at universities in Germany, Australia, South Africa, the UK, and now Canada. My main research focus today is on ethical and policy issues in the context of public and international health. My most recent books are two co-edited volumes, The 'Power of Pills' and 'The Bioethics Reader'. Forthcoming in October 2009 is a co-edited anthology of humanist thought (with Wiley-Blackwell under the title '50 Voices of Disbelief: Why We Are Atheists'', co-editor Russell Blackford, Monash U). I have also begun work on a volume co-authored with Soren Holm (Cardiff U) on 'Global Health Ethics' (forthcoming with Wiley-Blackwell hopefully in 2010). I still get invitations from well-heeled organisations asking me to deliver lectures free of charge and - ideally - pay for my own transport and hotel. Question is: Why should I?
